Smoking increases the risk of loss of memory

Smoking seems to be related with the increased risk of memory loss and dementia in middle-aged people, show the results of a French investigation, quoted by France Press.
Medics from the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research in Villejuif, France have analyzed medical data from 10 308 British employees, aged between 35 and 55 years that have taken part in the study between 1985 on and 1988.

The group of smokers was identified at the beginning of the study and once again between 1997 and 1999.

Total 5388 participants were subjected to tests of memory, mind, clearness of expression between 1997 and 1999. 4659 people of this group were tested again 5 years later.
The results of the tests were compared with those of non-smokers and participants that refused cigarettes. (more…)

Scientists from Carolinas Institute in Stockholm receive new information of the mechanisms of regulating the exchange in the fatty tissues.
They affirm that in the human body runs an ongoing process of formation and breakdown of fat cells. When people are overweight form more cells than in those with normal.

The survey of Swedish researchers shows that the formation of new fat cells become lifelong independently of weight - 10% in volume per year, and while the total quantity of cells in fat or thin people remains unchanged. (more…)
